Notice regarding road works on QMDReturn to blog
As some of you may be aware, Scottish Water are carrying out essential works to the sewage system on Queen Margaret Drive as of today, for around six weeks. Unfortunately, this means that the stretch of the road where the shops are will be closed off to traffic, so please be aware that you will not be able to park on or get a bus to QMD for the duration of the works (see here for details on bus diversions).
The good news is that a) all businesses will be trading as usual, b) pedestrian access is unaffected and c) we have been assured that we can get access to the drive for deliveries and drivers dropping off customers with mobility issues (the workmen will move cones when requested).
The bad news is that it is going to be a major disruption for everyone concerned, and there is very little we can do about it.
Queen Margaret Drive is not only home to The Yarn Cake, but also to a wonderfully eclectic mix of small, independent businesses, all of which are going to struggle to make ends meet with the loss of footfall we will have over the next six weeks. We are really lucky to have a fantastic set of loyal and enthusiastic customers and are hoping you will support us in this, in spite of the road closure.
What can you do? Mostly, come to Queen Margaret Drive! There are cafes, hairdressers, florists, beauticians, an optician and even a tattoo studio, all independently owned. We would love to see you. Tell your friends, too, be it on social media or in actual face-to-face conversation. QMD have both a FB page and a twitter account you can keep an eye on for further information. And you can also sign this change.org petition to put pressure on Scottish Water and Glasgow City Council to help the community weather this.
The street has come on in leaps and bounds since The Yarn Cake opened its doors in 2010, and we would really hate to see all our good work disappear thanks to...well...sewage. You can make your own joke there.
Thanks for reading and your continued support,
Antje and the team
PS: we still have our January sale on. In case you were wondering... ;)
